Guia de Isora has backed a protocol to avoid sexist attitudes at festival celebrations. The document, pre-sented by the South Network of Municipalities for Equality, is a decalogue aimed at event organisers. It includes re-commendations to avoid discriminatory or offensive behaviour. “It is about complying with the laws in force regarding gender equality,” said Ángeles González, councillor for equality. “We must get to the root to generate a change of consciousness in attitudes that are part of the collective imagination and popular celebrations are a type of event in which we can and we must involve all of us.” The protocol includes always having a balanced panel of judges ie 50 per cent men, 50 per cent women, ensuring no-one is prevented from taking part due to their sexual orientation, taking a good look at how fiestas are promoted, avoid sexist images or poses and always respecting people’s dignity.
