Plans to alleviate traffic congestion on the TF-1 at Las Chafiras are moving one step closer to reality. The contracting process is anticipating awarding the works of the third lane of the TF-1 on the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda link to the UTE Ferrovial Agroman-Ten Asphalts-Excavations Óscar del Castillo for 21,797,785 euros, the public works department has announced. The lane, designed to solve the congestion problems that occur in the Las Chafiras junction and that affect not only the link itself and its branches, but also the TF-1 motorway, will start from September if the proposal is accepted and viable. In a statement, councillor Pablo Rodríguez confirmed the work is aimed at improving road safety and avoiding the loss of service capacity of the section that runs between San Isidro and Las Américas. This is one of the main interventions planned for the island of Tenerife and from its department. Pablo Rodríguez said that “as promised”, the deadlines for the bidding of this work have been met, since in 2017 the project of the Las Chafiras-Oroteanda link was updated and drafted and the bidding process was initiated to award and start the work this year. The work project of the third lane of the TF-1, San Isidro-Las Americas section, link Las Chafiras-Oroteanda, was drafted in 2014 but it was not possible to execute it due to non-compliance in the transfers, from 2012 and until 2016, from the State to the Canary Islands within the framework of the road agreement, adds the Ministry. The new infrastructure will be developed between the 62 + 040 and 64 + 540 kilometre points of the TF-1 highway and on the sections of roads near the secondary roads TF-65, TF-652 and TF-655, as well as part of the urban road of the Las Chafiras nucleus. The works will consist of the remodelling of the Las Chafiras link and the creation of a new link from Oroteanda, complementary to the previous one, at the western end of the Las Chafiras nucleus. The project contemplates the construction of several routes between both links in order to guarantee connectivity with the trunk of the TF-1.
