A teenager was very seriously injured after falling from a considerable height on to rocks in Tenerife and then into the sea. The accident took place in the coastal area of La Negra in the municipality of La Matanza de Acentejo. The emergency services were called out just before 6.30pm after a call to the 112 centre. Police, the Civil Guards and medics were joined by the rescue helicopter. The occupants of a recreational boat which had been sailing in the area had already managed to rescue the 16-year-old. It was decided not to transport the injured teenager to the shore but to carry out an airlift via the helicopter. A crew member was winched down to the boat and hoisted the victim up before being transferred to the north airport and on to hospital. The teenager’s condition at the time was described as critical.
