Puerto’s new pool and Island Sports Centre is “closer than ever”

Agreement has been reached between Tenerife Cabildo and Puerto de la Cruz council for the execution of the works of complete remodelling of the municipal swimming pool, which will become the Island Swimming Centre. The project has an estimated budget of 11.6 million euros, which will be paid by the insular administration. For the Mayor of the tourist city, Lope Afonso, this step represents “a new impulse within the consolidation and execution of a necessary and ambitious project for the city.” “With this agreement, we guarantee that when the new facilities start operating, our clubs should have special attention in the development of their activities, as well as all the previous entities and users,” he said. The final go-ahead is now only awaited over the whole plot from Spain’s coastal department. Councillor of Urbanism, Juan Carlos Marrero said: “This is necessary in order to be able to bid for the work and to start as soon as possible, as it already has the necessary sector reports. We are in a position to say that at this moment, the process is almost complete and that the sports pool, the new Island Sports Centre is closer than ever.” Puerto council said it was aware of the delays and apologised to users but added: “It is important to note that the processing of a work with a cost that reaches 11.6 million euros and in which four administrations are working at the same time has a complexity that we have been able to coordinate to reach the current moment.”
