El Hierro aims to provide the best bus services in the Canaries

El Hierro wants to become the leader in the Canary Islands for good public transport. Routes and frequency were expanded from August 1st in a bid to help local residents and tourists and to promote sustainable mobility. Island president, Belén Allende said: “We move ahead in time to other islands, betting decisively on public transport, giving priority to the user of regular transport, improving services, expanding fleet and guaranteeing discounts in the case of the elderly, young people and unemployed.” This new extension, the third one since 2016, will increase frequencies in virtually all routes, as well as putting more buses before and after normal working hours. “One of our main objectives was to connect the most remote parts of the island with each other, Sabinosa and La Restinga. Make them closer and with the same develop-ment possibilities and services as the rest of the people, “declared the mana-ger of TransHierro, Ángel Lima. Improvements in the re-gular service carried out in 2016 resulted in an increase in passenger traffic in the bus of 17.74 per cent (139,060 passengers compared to 114,385 in 2015). Last year, the increase was 13.38 per cent compared to 2016, transporting 157,672 people. Investment is also continuing into new buses.
