Swiss woman breaks legs at viewpoint

A 28-year-old Swiss woman was seriously injured as a result of an accident at a viewing point in Santa Cruz. A full investigation will determine exactly what happened but initial reports to the 112 emergency control centre indicated part of the ceiling of a building at the Mirador de San Andrés on the Igueste de San Andrés road collapsed. They were told the woman had been trapped by her legs under the rubble. The incident happened just before 4pm and brought the police, Canary Emergency Service and Tenerife firefighters to the scene. The woman suffered fractures to her legs of a serious nature. A 112 spokesman con-firmed: “The Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert in which it was communicated that part of the roof of a building, located in the Mirador de San Andrés, had come loose and a woman had been trapped by her legs under the rubble. Members of the Tenerife Fire Consortium secured the installation and freed the affected debris from the rubble.” The woman was treated and stabilised at the scene before being transferred in a serious condition to hospital.
