Easyjet wins new route from La Palma to Basel

The Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands has awarded the route that will link La Palma with the Swiss city of Basel to Easyjet. The airport of Basel is located on the border between the southeast of Germany and the French Alsace. Tourism chiefs says this region is of strategic interest as it will service not just the Swiss themselves but also the nearby regions. “It is a great opportunity to grow the number of travellers from this area and will boost the arrival of tourists to La Palma,” said a spokesman. The new route will start operating in November 2018 and will offer two weekly flights during the winter seasons. About 8,000 tourists will be able to reach the island on a regular basis with this new connection, which joins those who already come on the regular route La Palma – Zurich. Easyjet company has been present on the island since 2016 and the Basel route joins those already operating with London and Berlin. Minister of Tourism, Isaac Castellano said this route is added to the 23 new ones opened since April 2014, when the Flight Development Fund was launched.
